The Young Leaders Award is a programme of leadership training for young people which supports them working with young children. They utilise their leadership skills by leading a whole range of games and activities. Here at Aston St Mary's we value the importance of physical development and acknowledge how peer support can successfully enhance the children's physical development through planned activities at lunchtimes.

Our Young Leaders are year 5/6 children who have volunteered to participate in this programme and through the training and their commitment, responsibility and motivation they have shown have successfully achieved their 'Young Leaders' status. As a school we have seen the positive impact that they have had on our setting through promoting physical development at lunchtimes, supporting children to enjoy and achieve, encouraging and promoting good self-esteem and by supporting inclusive play. More importantly for the children participating they have been having FUN!
